Headcanons
May. 14th, 2013 11:02 amGarry has a very small canon with not much backstory. I find I need to expand on it to roleplay him properly, so here are the things I've come up with.
❇ Garry attends Musashino Art University in Kodaira, Tokyo where he's majoring in Fashion Design. He enjoys painting and other artistic pursuits as well, including cooking, but his first love is clothing.
❇ He tried to get into Keio University where Yohji Yamamoto and Rei Kawakubo (Japanese fashion designers) went but wasn't accepted.
❇ Garry's parents did not approve of his attending school for art, calling it worthless and a waste of time. When he pursued it anyway, they cut him off. This is the reason why he never gives his surname. He's not officially disowned, but he decided on his own to pursue his passions and he keeps his full name a secret as a symbol of that decision.
❇ He's enamored of Harajuku street fashion and designs much in that style, especially visual K, but tends to be too timid to go that bold with designs that he actually wears. It accounts for his slightly heeled shoes and purposely ragged long coat, but the shoes are still low and not boots and the coat is a flat color with little other embellishments. His designs on paper are much more flamboyant.
❇ Garry's hair is dyed. It's actually a natural dark gray but he feels it makes him look old and so he dyes it vibrant colors. It used to be black when he was younger but it grayed prematurely.
❇ There's nothing wrong with Garry's left eye, he just wears his hair like that because he thinks it looks cool.
❇ On his own when he got into college, Garry started to spread his proverbial wings a bit. He wears makeup (usually just eyeliner and lip tint) and paints his nails. He's lucky enough to have gotten a job in a campus coffee shop where they didn't mind this and the dyed hair to support himself through school.
❇ Unfortunately, because he has to work so much in order to pay for school, Garry doesn't have much of a social life or many friends. There's a small group, but they're mostly classmates and he often becomes the guy that just follows along behind without being entirely involved.
❇ I play Garry at the age of 21. He's a junior in college.
❇ Not much of a fan of sweets, Garry instead prefers sour tastes and his favorite flavor is lemon. He likes variations of coffee with lemon in it too, especially espresso romano which has lemon rind in it. He tends to find coffee itself too bitter though so he's concocted a combination drink that's a marochino (espresso, milk froth, and chocolate) with lemon rind to make it a marochino romano. He can't order it anywhere and generally just has to make it for himself.
❇ He's a major francophile and hopes to someday live in France, or at least just visit. His dream is to open a boutique in Paris. He has a few ideas for a name, one of which is "le macaron"because he's a giant dweeb.
❇ Garry is unusually tall for a Japanese man, measuring in at roughly 5'10", which is average for westerners.
❇ Because of the stress of school + supporting himself, Garry took up smoking only a few months after starting college but he hates the smell of cigarettes so he exclusively smokes cloves. He's trying to quit, which is why he had a lemon candy as a substitute at the gallery yet still had his lighter.
❇ Garry has always been a fairly anxious person. He has to make himself be positive instead of it coming naturally, but he does want to be upbeat. He tries very hard, but sometimes will burn himself out and spiral into depression.
❇ There was no incident in his life that made dolls unsettling to him before the gallery, he just always found them creepy. Now because of the gallery he finds them terrifying. Curiously though, it's only humanoid dolls.
❇ Also because of the gallery, Garry will only use legless, armless, and headless dress forms when making clothes. If it has arms and legs he'll swear its moving behind his back.
